Yeah I did the big dog, haha, theres a link to my art blog at the top right of this one, called 'Ruth Garrood draws this' I didnt think I was ready to go big scale until my tutour practically forced me to, and once I did I found that it was alot freer and easier for me to work on such a scale. I just like the space. Im pretty crap at digital art though, yours looks cool ! I have no idea how to do it, haha. xxx
Yeah im at uni studying it atm, I really love animals, so from an early age just drew all my pets and animals in books and stuff. Like you, I draw what im interested in, and because im interested in it it makes me more commited. If that makes sense ? Although I can appreciate the beauty of a landscape, I have no interest in painting one, so if I tried it'd probably be rubbish. Its an old cliche but I just practice. Im better at painting dogs and horses because I understand their phisique more and have studied them alot. Im not so great at painting cats atm for example. Do you prefure painting people ? I find it pretty hard, they always look charicatured ! haha.
Sorry its taken me ages to reply, blogspot stopped loading on my pc for a few days. haha. I used to be really hung up on achieving my own 'style' when I was younger, but like you said, when you sit back and just take the time to draw you find a style that youre comfortable with. I still enjoy experimenting with new styles whilst having the security of a style im comfortable and confident with. Photo realism is something that id love to be able to achieve, its taken me a while to accept that Im not great at it, and thats not such a bad thing. You cant be great at everything !
I think its easy to feel that as an artist, you will be cheating by copying something. And its something I beat myself up over alot in the past. I dont think there is any problem with referancing though. If I was drawing a horse for example, I cant be expected to know intuitivly what its supposed to look like, with out spending time studying its muscle tone etc. If I drew a dog from memory itd be so much worse than if I drew it from life, so dont feel that you have to be completely original all the time ! Youre clearly very good at what you do, and have some great ideas, so just spend time doing what you enjoy and dont beat yourself up over it too much !
Hey, thanks for letting me know, I was wondering where you went! I've forgotten my msn passwords several times and had to keep making new accounts, ahhh! Finally seem able to remember it though!
Ooh, is that a deviantart link I spy, and shall add you on there too and have a proper look later. Bye for now!
Just got the message about your password, heheh. Sounds like just the kinda thing I'd do! I can't buy online anymore because I put a security question on my car that I can't remember the answer to, whoops!
